I’m not used to this sort of thing so it feels slightly odd….. but I’ve been nominated for an award!
I’ve been nominated for Yorkshire Woman of Achievement Award in the Courage category!
Oh my goodness, I am so…..actually I don’t know how I feel! I feel humbled, happy, a bit shy, excited, a lot of emotions!
I AM grateful to Elizabeth Wright who nominated me, thank you!!!!
Being nominated is lovely, it makes my heart feel full…..but…… the things I do, I do because I want too and I enjoy doing them. They fulfil me.
I am doing what I promised myself when I was in hospital, I am trying to make a difference. I am desperate for one of the students I speak too, to be the one who finds out they are a match for someone who needs a bone marrow transplant. I will feel that I have made up for me needing one.
This morning I went to Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital and sat with and thanked a man who was donating his stem cells to save the life of a young boy…..who would not feel emotion at that! Actually, when I told him the person receiving his stem cells was a child he also got emotional! Sometimes I find it difficult to get my words out because I really do have a lump in my throat!
I also visited (in the next chair!) a young man who had returned 6 months later to donate lymphocytes for a lady who he had donated his stem cells too just 6 months ago. He continues to be her life support! Isn’t he wonderful too.
You know, I love my life and all the volunteering I do…….(I do need to earn some money as well, lol) but in a way my volunteering and the people I meet and the students I speak too totally make me feel rich, but in a grateful and very happy way. I truly believe it is important to find things that fill our hearts, minds, bodies with good and happy emotions.
Regarding my own Speaking business, again I feel so satisfied when students or teachers or business people, or parents tell me that through hearing my talk, Parachute of Dreams, they are inspired to make changes, to have the attitude and the motivation to go and achieve whatever it is they have decided they want to achieve.
Thank you Elizabeth for my nomination.
It is possible to make a difference, one conversation at a time.
